The Founders Park gig is arguably one of the highlights of the festival—a family friendly afternoon/evening of top quality jazz performances. There will be picnicking and dancing on the village green, food carts, and a festival atmosphere. As well as the Nelson Jazz Club Big Band and a selection of hand-picked acts, we are proud to present Wellington outfit The Presidents of Funk, who will undoubtedly finish the Founders event on a high.
The Lineup Includes:
It’s a Festival tradition that the Nelson Jazz Club Big Band gets the afternoon humming! Their distinctive 18-piece sound is always a crowd-pleaser, and features plenty of chances to showcase the talents of their two popular vocalists.
Hot Tonic are former NZ (now USA-based) guitarist Josh Hindmarsh and American bassist and vocalist Victoria Woods. They merge jazz with the musical elements of funk, blues and rock. Expect to be surprised by the exciting high-energy sounds of this band.
The hardest funking band in town, fronted by Wellington’s number one Soul Sister, Lisa Tomlins! The Presidents of Funk present to you some of the finest Funk, Soul and R&B of the ’60s and ’70s.
