Looking for Cheerful Jazz Musicians

Nigel Bennett is looking for musicians for a cheerful old-time (1920-30’s) acoustic jazz band. Ideal candidates have a good sense of swing time, can follow a lead sheet, have time for regular rehearsals, and a cheerful disposition. It would be great to include instruments of the era, such as washboard, sousaphone, musical saw etc… give him a call, text, or e-mail and he will take it from there.

Upcoming Nelson Jazz Club Social Nights at the Honest Lawyer

The schedule for the NJC Social Nights through the end of the year is Thursday, 19th Nov and Thursday, 17th December from 7.30 pm at the Honest Lawyer back bar.  Bring your instrument and/or vocal chops and join in.

The idea of the Jam Night is that a quartet of Bass, Drums, Keyboard and Guitar is organized to provide a backing band for Jazz Club members to get up and perform with. Each Jazz Club member selects 2 tunes to play with the quartet and they do need to provide / bring music for the backing band (at least 3 concert charts). There will also be tunes arranged for bigger groups of players to come up and jam together. This is a chance to see local jazz characters up close and personal.

For details, contact Simon Williams at 0275394498.
