Our own Big Band experience with a repertoire focused around the great music written especially for a large ensemble.

Nelson Jazz Club Big Band

The Nelson Jazz Club Big Band is the latest incarnation of a group of jazz enthusiasts who wanted to pursue their musical interests in a large ensemble setting; a traditional stage band playing syncopated written arrangements usually containing improvised interludes. Most people will be familiar with this style through listening to the works of Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Glen Miller and other famous bandleaders.

The band during its history has itself performed on national television, at many local dances and concerts and at nearly every Nelson Jazz Festival since its inception. The mixture of youthful enthusiasm and polished experience amongst its members ensure that it continues to receive plaudits from its audience.\ Read More…

Breez’n is one of Nelson’s most popular jazz bands, serving up a smooth mix of jazz standards, contemporary classics and interesting arrangements of popular songs.

Ken Richards ? Guitar synthesizer Ivan Outram ? Lead Guitar Aroha Pascoe ? Vocals Jak Kariatiana ?Bass Warren McLew ? Drums

Starting life as an instrumental quartet, the band quickly realised the potential benefits of having a frontline vocalist. Aroha joined the band in 2003 having gained considerable experience as vocalist.

The combined musical experience of the band is staggering though the majority of that time has been spent performing music other than jazz. Ken, Aroha, Ivan, Warren and Jak all play in a pop music or classic rock n? roll band. This provides the band with a huge repertoire as well as the ability to choose popular tunes and create their own smooth jazz version.

The Breez?n repertoire includes many well know-known jazz standards plus jazz arrangements of popular tunes.
